Spring’s here – the sun’s out and the royal wedding is just around the corner. It’s perfect weather for a garden party – so today we’re sharing our top tips to help you to prepare your home for a summer soiree.
Prepare and plan in advance
First things first, plan ahead and make a list of all the things you need to do to get your garden party ready. Some things will need to be prepared well in advance (such as food ordering, any essential maintenance work or big changes). Others can be left rather last minute – so make a checklist that covers the month before the big day. Each week tick off several tasks to ensure you’re staying on track.
Pretty pots go a long way
Potted plants are an easy and inexpensive way to brighten up any outdoor area. You can often buy them ready-made filled with pretty blooms – but it’s also simple and quick to make your own up. Vary the sizes and shapes for an eye-catching treat for party guests. Add woodchips and bark for a nice sensory touch.
Freshen up with simple tricks
Don’t underestimate the power of a lick of paint or new staining. If you have time, bob around the garden and paint surfaces that need to be freshened up such as fences, benches, sheds and decking. Ideally plan to do this a week or so before the party itself to avoid the garden smelling too strongly of paint.
Don’t forget to light it up
If your party is likely to go on into the small hours don’t forget to provide lighting so that your guests can continue to sit outside and enjoy your garden. Twinkly fairy lights and solar powered lanterns are great for accenting focal points and illuminating walkways.
It doesn’t have to be perfect
Don’t worry if you’re spotting minor issues and imperfections on the day of the party. Small weeds and little chips or bits of rust will go unnoticed! The most important thing is that your guests have a great time in your garden and enjoy your fantastic hospitality.
